Not Guilty

Like most of Amerika, I followed the Casey Anthony trail the past several weeks. You all know, the mother who was accused of killing her 2-year old daughter Caylee Anthony. At first, it seemed like the persecution had a closed tight case against the young Orlando mom. But as the trail progressed, the persecution failed to provide significant evidence to proove that Casey Anthony was guilty. What I noticed through the entire trail was as it prolonged, Casey Anthony became more and more popular with the media and tens of thousands of Americans. So this 5th day of July, she was found not guilty of first-degree murder, manslaughter and child abuse, and only guilty of 4 misdemeanor charges. They said the jury was exhausted and wanted to go home. The media quickly started talking about multi-million dollar book deals and hollywood status. It just shows, we live in a society that does'nt really want to discuss death for all too long, it's uncomfortable, yeah maybe still a taboo. Not guilty, business as usual.

  1. You can't even be serious that she got off. It makes me furious. They say there was no evidence directly linking her to the crime but I think there was enough circumstantial evidence that she should be locked away for a very long time. At the very least she should have been charged with child abuse/neglect because at the very least she didn't report the child as missing for over 30 days. Last I checked that's neglectful!!! It really sickens me that she gets to walk free and will make money off of all the book deals and movies that are going to make a mockery out of an innocent child's tragic death. It makes me so sad to think that the message being sent to america is that if you murder your daughter and lie about it enough, you will confuse everyone enough to get away with it. So sad what we've come to.

  2. I don't think that we don't want to talk about death, instead I don't think we want to realize how easy it is for people to comit crimes like this and not feel any shame what so ever. It takes a special person to do something like this and yet show no emotion, this is what our society has become. The sad thing is that people are going to be paying a neglectful mother who was involved in her childs death. Society will buy up her book to hear her stories and she will make millions for being a horrible person. There are alot of ways to look at this case but what I get out of it is how sad it is that she as a mother was so confortable about her childs death that she was able to get a tatoo that mentioned the good life and continue to party like nothing ever happened. Is this where our society is going, to a place where all we are is surrounded by is murder in the media to where we think that it is just another part of life and the death experience. Just like we said in class when a child hears that someone dies they ask who killed them?

  3. I agree that Casey Anthony should have gotten charged with something to do with Caylie's death, however, we have to remember that she has spent the past few years in jail. "I'm not saying she is innocent, I just said there was not enough evidence. If you cannot prove what the crime was, you cannot determine a punishment." This is from one of the jurors of Berryman and I believe it's a realistic point of view. I do hate, though, that now she will probably get loads of publicity and help from the public. Thats unfortunate.
