Different Outlook On Death

The other day I was talking to a friend of mine about her grandfather and she was telling me what he does for a living.  She said he works in a morgue as a morgue beautician and surprisingly he really loves his job.  She told me he once described to her how the deceased bodies have a sort of gold tint to them that he finds beautiful.  I really thought this was a really interesting take on death that I could share with the class.

  1. What your friend's grandfather said is interesting. My grandmother has been sick for a long time with cancer and she was sent home from the hospital and put on hospice care on Tuesday. She's had a wonderful, long life so it is not as difficult to find peace in the situation as other deaths, but my dad told me that she is so peaceful looking, he said she has had a sort of glow to her since she has been home and out of the hospital. Very interesting, life is beautiful.

  2. My old hairdresser does hair and make-up on deceased people and she absolutely loves it. She says it is delicate work that pays off, because that will be the last hairstyle and makeup they will ever have on their face. Whether we want to admit it or not, we have a very vain culture where looks are important dead or not. So my hair dresser feels proud that people trust her with an important job like that.

  3. On the other hand, my friend's dad also is morgue beautician, as well as the embalmer. He hardly talks about his job even though I used be right in the funeral home waiting with my friend. He wasn't an overly serious guy, there was definitly humor in his life, however he himself would hardly ever bring up the topic of his job. I'm glad that there are people out there who are eager to share what they do but he wasn't one of them
