Death - The Last Taboo

Hi Everyone!

http://australianmuseum.net.au/Death-The-Last-Taboo/

The link above is to the Australian Museum and it is a section that discusses death as the last taboo. There are various links about different things we have discussed in class including what death is, what happens after death, the decomposition process, and the cremation process etc.

Check it out

  1. Christina, what an interesting post! I didn't look at all of the links on the site (for fear of running into a picture of a dead, decomposing body), but I really enjoyed reading the stories of how different cultures prepare for death. I didn't realize how many cultures stay with the body after death out of respect. David Hodgson, a forensic assistant had a small section on the page where he said that when people die in a hospital, the staff cleans their face, fixes their hair the best they can, closes their eyes, and pulls one arm out of the blanket so family can hold on to it. It has never occurred to me that hospital staff "fixes" the appearances of their dead patients, but I guess the point is to make it look like they died peacefully and comfortably. Thanks for sharing!
