I saw the movie The Bucket List starring Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson back in 2007. This class has made me think about the concept of a bucket list especially after our discussion on the topic. However, one question still remains with me. Is creating a bucket list just another way to measure who we are and what we have done or not done in life? I would like to come up with a bucket list but I am hesitant to do it because I fear the end result. I think that if I produce a bucket list I may fail at completing it. Often people forget about their bucket list due to living life and it’s only when life comes to a halt that we look at our list. Another issue is losing the list or setting goals too high that the completion of the list may not be obtainable.
Perhaps my hesitation and question is just a way of me staling to come up with a list. Maybe people do not need a list and I am just following along with what society feels helps us. People may speculate my reasoning and question. However, I believe that the bigger picture is why do we really want a bucket list is just for our self or to prove to others? I leave with a final question. Will a bucket list or the concept of a bucket list really matter when we are dead?

A very interesting question was asked at the end of this post. I do not think that a bucket list will matter once you are dead because, well, you are dead. Although, sometimes people act in a certain way while they are living to be remembered in a certain way once they have died. I think that a bucket list should be more of a guideline. You are able to list down certain things you would like to do during your life, but the list should not define how you live your life. We should be living our lives to the fullest every day because we are not promised tomorrow. I think that a bucket list is a fun thing to make and if you get to cross a couple of things off your list that is wonderful, but in no way does that list define you as a person or reflect what you have accomplished during your lifetime.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the post above. A bucket list will not matter when we are dead because we are dead. It is just a set of things you would like to accomplish during your life. If you don't do it, then oh well. I don't think it would upset you later in life unless you really didn't do anything with your life. Because let's keep in mind that bucket lists are typically made when we are young with our whole lives ahead of us. A lot happens between then and our death. Things change, we may not want to do the things on our lists anymore. So I definitely agree that a list is more of a guideline than a rule.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that one should feel the need to create a bucket list just because they think thats the way they'll get everything i want done.I think if someone wants to do something, then just do it, stop waiting on the perfect time...there is no perfect time, the time is now, not later. Ever since I entered this class I've learned the significance of life, and how important it is to live life to the fullest, no one ever knows when they're time is going to come. Go out and do what you want now, because if you wait then the time may never come.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you guys the truth, i have tryed to live each moment as it is my last and if i did, i would not be in university right now making straight As. I would be walking the world, asking stargers about their lives, i would eat to the food peole would offer me. i would wear cloth only when i needed to but would much rather walk around close to nude. I would have my dog by my side and any dog that wanted to join the pack. I would walk the world, sail all the seas, make love under every different continents stars with complete strangers my fingernails would stay dirty and my toes would be black.I would never watch tv again and only read books for knowledge. The real knowledge i need is not through university education but through interation with the world. I would meditate on questions for weeks at a time. I would be satisfied with life even if i had absolutly no matterial possetion to my name. So i can not live my life to the fullest because its a dreamers life, not a productive member of societies kinda life.Itss a struggle ive dealt with since high school. Who knows how it willplay out.
